A New Chapter for LF Voices Collective

by | Nov 24, 2024

When I launched LF Voices Collective, I knew it would evolve in ways I couldn’t entirely predict. What I didn’t realize was how quickly that evolution would take shape. Today, LFVC feels less like an idea and more like the start of something deeply important—not just to me, but to the communities and organizations I’m lucky enough to work with.

I’m excited to share that LFVC has partnered with Shape Up Mississippi to produce Vicksburg Voices. This project focuses on amplifying local stories, bringing them to life through narratives that reflect the heart of this community. It’s the kind of work that reminds me why I started LFVC in the first place—because stories matter. When people see themselves in the stories being told, it’s transformative.

Another major step for LFVC is my decision to leave my full-time role with Deep South Today in January. While this wasn’t an easy choice, it’s the right one. I’ll still be collaborating with DST through LFVC, providing strategic consulting to help strengthen their work and grow their impact. At the same time, stepping away from a full-time position allows me to focus fully on building LF Voices Collective into the platform I know it can be.

For a long time, I’ve felt that local news and storytelling need a shift. Too often, media feels disconnected from the communities it’s meant to serve. Too often, traditional approaches prioritize metrics like pageviews over meaningful engagement. With LFVC, I want to help reimagine these spaces—breaking down silos, fostering connection, and creating innovative ways for people to experience stories that reflect their lives and experiences.

Right now, my focus is on three main goals for LFVC:

  1. Expanding Our Offerings: From storytelling projects to consulting services, I’m refining how LFVC helps organizations amplify voices and connect meaningfully with their audiences.
  2. Growing the Team: This work is bigger than one person, and I’m beginning the process of bringing in collaborators who can help take LFVC to the next level.
  3. Scaling Our Impact: Through partnerships, new tools, and ambitious projects, I’m committed to making LFVC a transformative force for local news, cultural storytelling, and community connection.

These changes aren’t just about building a business—they’re about creating something that feels necessary. We’re in a moment where people are craving connection, representation, and authenticity in the stories they hear. LFVC is my way of helping to meet that moment.

To everyone who has supported me so far, thank you. Whether through kind words, collaboration, or believing in this work, you’ve made all the difference. I’m excited for what’s next—for LFVC, for the communities we serve, and for the stories we’ll create together.

Onward,
